ITU-MFA Technical Cooperation Agreement (Status: For signature)

Ongoing project for the implementation of an e-commerce Centre in the
Islamic Republic of Iran that will be used by the Iranian citizens and later
on by all the citizens from the Development-8 (D-8) member countries. The D-8
Member countries are Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria,
Pakistan and Turkey.
The ITU is providing assistance in establishing the technical, legal,
business, financial and banking requirements. ECDC is in the process of
elaborating a feasibility study with the requirements and surveys filled by
the countries concerned.
ECDC has drafted a Technical Cooperation Agreement to be signed by the ITU
and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran to define
the respective objectives, roles and responsibilities of the ITU and the MFA
(as represented by the MFA delegated company), to conduct a feasibility study
to evaluate the requirements for setting up an e-business infrastructure in
The Islamic Republic of Iran and in the other D-8 countries. The Content of
the agreement is under negotiation.
The ECDC Project Manager has successfully accomplished a mission to the Islamic Republic of Iran
from 10 to 15 September 2001.
