Director's remarks, TSAG

Presented by Mr Yury Grin, Deputy-to the BDT Director
Mr. Chairman,

I am pleased to present to you today the following remarks on behalf of Mr. Brahima Sanou, Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau, who is on mission abroad but who wanted to mark on this occasion the interest that the BDT is paying to the work of the ITU-T, TSAG and TSB.

Mr. Chairman,

Dear Elected Officials,

Ladies and gentlemen,

Dear colleagues and friends,

A new team of officials was elected last year in Guadalajara during the Plenipotentiary Conference and, since taking office at the beginning of this year, we are working at fostering close cooperation among the three Bureaux and the General Secretariat. In our minds, the concept of One-ITU is not just words, neither is it a simple slogan for promotion and communication purposes.

In fact, working and delivering as one single team has become a necessity for all. With the legitimate request of membership for good governance, it is our responsibility to ensure that we do not duplicate our work across sectors, that we avoid any kind of overlap or redundancies, that we streamline what we do to do more with less and to make the best use of the available resources to better meet the needs of our members.

And with this new spirit nurturing our vision, we are translating words into action.

The three Directors have created a task force on the level of the Deputies to the Directors whose role is to better coordinate sector meetings, seminars, workshops, as well as our substantive work on cross-cutting issues such as Climate Change, Cybersecurity, Accessibility, or even more obviously Bridging the Standardization Gap. With this approach, we strive to provide our membership with focused, relevant and fully coordinated deliverables that will better meet their expectations. This should have an immediate impact both in terms of effective use of time and reduced costs. This should also help ITU delivering as One. With this in mind, we are also working towards the possibility of holding the meetings of the Advisory Groups back-to-back. I am confident that with creative ideas, we can find constructive ways to achieve our goals.

We are looking forward to seeing the benefits of new way of doing business in the work of the three Advisory Groups. We are also looking forward to hear from you on new avenues that we should explore to deliver to all our Members top value for money.

I wish you a fruitful TSAG meeting.

Thank you.
