Q1. How do I apply for the ITU Cybersecurity/ICT Applications Internship Programme? Is there an application form to be filled? Where can I find it?

Q2. Who can participate in the 2009 Essay Competition?

The 2009 ITU Cybersecurity and ICT Applications Essay Competition is open to current students and recent graduates in economics, political science, law, literature, telecommunications, computer science, information systems and related fields between the ages of 20 and 30 years old worldwide. Essays must be submitted by individuals.

Q3. What is the deadline for submissions?

The deadline for submissions is 14 June 2009 (midnight Geneva time GMT+2).

Q4. How do I submit my essay?

All applications need to be submitted online. Please also use the template provided for your essay.

Q5. Who is eligible for the essay competition?

The 2009 ITU Cybersecurity and ICT Applications Essay Competition is open to current students and recent graduates in economics, political science, law, literature, telecommunications, computer science, information systems and related fields between the ages of 20 and 30 years old. Students enrolled in Ph.D. courses are also eligible to participate.

Q6. I am just under 20 or just over 30 – can I participate?

This competition is aimed at people aged 20-30. If you are born in the years 1979-1989 you are eligible to participate.

Q7. In what language can I submit the essay?

Essays can be submitted in English only.

Q8. What is the length and format of the essay?

The essay should not exceed 2000 words, 1.5 line-spaced. This does not include the number of words used in in graphs and tables. Use the template available on the website for your essay.

Q9. May I use graphs and tables?

Yes, but you are not obliged to do so. Any graphs and tables included in the essay should be relevant to the text. The graphs and tables need to be referenced in the text.

Q10. How will the essays be marked?

The essays will be marked according to their relevance, originality, and clarity.

Q11. How many topics should I choose?

Each candidate can only submit one essay.

Q12 Can I write my essay with another person?

No, this is not allowed. The essay should be individual work.

Q13 How long is the internship?

 The winners of the 2009 ITU Cybersecurity and ICT Applications Essay Competition will be offered the opportunity of a consultancy contract within the ITU Development Sector's ICT Applications and Cybersecurity Division for three months during the autumn of 2009 *(or as per arrangements with the winners).

The winners will also be given a contribution towards the cost of an economy class flight from their place of residence. In addition, they were also paid the sum of CHF 6000 towards living expenses for the duration of the contract.

Please be informed that the deadline for submitting applications for the 2009 ITU Cybersecurity and ICT Applications Essay Competition has passed. Information about the results of the competition will be posted in August 2009.
