Information Technologies of the
Republic of Azerbaijan

It is honor and privilege for the Ministry of Communications and
Information Technologies of the Republic Azerbaijan to be one of the
sponsors of Connect CIS 2009 Summit, the major ICT event in the region for
the last decade. We do appreciate what has practiced by the ITU during
recent years, especially the Union’s role in regulating intergovernmental
relations while implementing new technologies and bridging digital divide
within and between countries. We are attaching a great importance to
cooperation with ITU in this respect.

The Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway, initiated by the Government
of Azerbaijan, is a pure example of our commitment to regional cooperation
and eagerness in solving global ICT problems. The initiative is not only to
facilitate elimination of digital divide in the region but is also to play
a crucial role in socio-economic development and achievement of the MDGs.

Taking this opportunity I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the
authorities of the Republic of Belarus for warm hospitality and to wish all
success to the participants of the event.
