ITU-ASEAN Forum on Promoting Effective and Secure Social Media |
|
|
The International
Telecommunication Union (ITU) organised the ITU - ASEAN Forum on Promoting Effective and Secure Social Media
hosted by the Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture of Malaysia and
held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 18-19 July 2012.

The Forum was a joint effort of ITU and ASEAN Telecommunications and IT Senior Officials (TELSOM) that
aimed
to provide a platform for cooperation, information sharing, and dialogue on social media landscape to better understand:
- its importance;
- use by all stakeholders; and,
- new policy and/or regulatory challenges that should be addressed by policy makers and regulators.
The Forum aimed to contribute to previous and ongoing global activities related to initiatives on the positive use of ICTs.
The focus was on promotion of effective, trustworthy and secure social media. The Forum
brought together ICT practitioners,
senior government officials, social media experts, related industry players, academia and other stakeholder groups for a better
understanding on the need for a wider context of national and international cross-sectoral approaches and collaborative arrangements as
well as the changing mandates of ICT regulators to address the challenges posed by social media.
