The Arab Regional Office (ARO) in Egypt,
established in 1991, is one of the Regional
Offices of the Telecommunication Development
Bureau / International Telecommunication Union (BDT/
ITU)
Within the framework of goals and tasks of the
Union, the ARO has the following priorities:
-
To
increase the awareness of the role that the
telecommunications plays in the economic &
social development & give advices in the
domains of the policies with commercial
aspects & sectoral options;

To
improve the development of human resources &
to manage it as a necessary substantial
element in every country through a group of
regional studies, workshops and training
courses;
-
To consolidate the regional cooperation in
order to coordinate the development
programme and the best use of the local
available expertise;
-
To
provide consultancy for the determined
programmes of development of the rural
telecommunications;
-
To present the policies of
telecommunications & the regulatory issues;
-
To
respond to the urgent needs of the least
developed Arab Countries (LDCs) in the field
of ICT;
-
To
consolidate the partnership with the public
& private sectors for the implementation of
the regional initiatives.
The office is working currently on the execution
of the Decisions & Recommendations of the World
Telecom Development Conference (WTDC-06) in the
Arab Region (Doha, March 2006), Doha Action Plan
(DAP) & the Decisions of the Plenipotentiary
Conference (PP-06) (Antalia, November 2006).
Also the Arab Regional Office provides the
support to the State Members under several
activities: consultancy, training courses,
workshops, studies, regional conferences,
seminars, pilot projects, direct assistance and
also some programmes, the special partnership
which the Union undertakes specially in the
domains of cybersecurity, e-government,
e-commerce, internet protocol, integrated rural
development, relief in cases of emergency,
protection of the environment , telemedicine,
distance learning, etc… |
