Regional Workshop/Training on "Connect a School, Connect a Community",

Background
The Connect a School, Connect a Community Initiative was launched by UN
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and ITU Secretary-General Hamadoun Touré together
with 300 youth from some 150 countries participating in the ITU TELECOM World
Youth Forum in October 2009. At the launch, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
stressed the need for teamwork and political will in turning the goal of
connecting all schools into reality.
The main objective of the event is to provide participants with the necessary
skills as to make the best use of connected schools, which can serve as
community ICT Centers for the improved social and economic development of
marginalized and disadvantaged groups in the community, especially women,
persons with disabilities, youth and indigenous peoples. This training programme
will explain the important role of ICTs to achieve/promote digital inclusion -
and will explain how ITU's Initiative can help countries in the accomplishment
of WSIS and the Millennium Goals. The training will focus on specific Modules of
the tool kit developed by ITU and foresees an intensive interaction among
instructors and participants. Participation Certificates will be provided.
