ITU TELECOM ASIA 2002 Staged in Hong Kong, China, from 2 to 7 December, ASIA 2002 will be the key meeting place this year for Asian-Pacific policy makers, industry leaders and innovators. HOSTED BY THE GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA ASIA 2002 is being hosted by the Government of the People’s Republic of China. Taking place as it does in – and for – the world’s biggest potential marketplace, ASIA 2002 promises to be a crucial event for the Asia-Pacific region. ORGANIZED BY THE ITU ASIA 2002 is being organized by the International Telecommunication Union – the specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for telecommunications. With a membership comprising both government and the private sector, the ITU is the only telecoms event organizer with a truly global mandate. AN EXHIBITION AND A FORUM The event comprises an Exhibition and a Forum. keep participants informed and facilitate their visit. The Official Daily Newspaper for the event is being produced by Advanstar Communications. The Daily will chart the most important events that have taken place in the telecoms market in the last 24 hours. The Online News site will also carry daily news up-dates on the Asian-Pacific and global telecoms industry. ITU TELECOM TV will broadcast live each day from its studio at the heart of the HKCEC. With the latest news about what’s going on at the event, and regional and global news about the industry, ITU TELECOM TV will also be available in major hotels in Hong Kong as well as on-line at http://www.telecomtv.itu.int, which will feature both live and recorded video streams. HONG KONG CONVENTION AND EXHIBITION CENTRE The award-winning Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) is located at the waterfront on the Hong Kong Island in the Wanchai district. Hong Kong’s stunning harbour scenery is visible through the largest plate glass window in the world. The HKCEC is one of the largest and most spectacular exhibition and convention facilities in the world, with 64,000 m2 of gross function space available. “FROM RECOVERY TO PROSPERITY: BUILDING ON CHANGE” Come to the ASIA 2002 Forum – where government and industry leaders will share their vision of 21st century telecommunications for the Asia-Pacific region. It’s your opportunity to network with the telecoms Ministers of the region and the captains of the world’s telecoms companies. The ASIA 2002 Forum programme consists of plenary sessions which lead into three streams:

The TDS will bring together delegates from the least developed and lowest income countries in the region to review development plans and discuss issues of immediate importance to their specific countries. The Youth Forum will follow on from the success of the first edition, held at ITU TELECOM AFRICA 2001. Via a competition, it will bring young people from each country in the Asia-Pacific region who might comprise a corps of future leaders in the ICT field. The winners of the competition will be awarded scholarships (fellowships) to attend ASIA 2002 and participate in the Youth Forum. The main discussion topics will be Technology, Policy and Regulation, and Finance. The Youth Forum is mainly sponsored by PCCW in conjunction with the ITU. It will also feature special lunchtime sessions with an industry focus, sponsored by Cisco Systems, Vodafone, Intelsat and Cable & Wireless Virtual Training. Forum Fees Fees include attendance at all sessions for the complete duration of ASIA 2002, cost of associated documentation and permanent entrance to the Exhibition. All prices are quoted per person in Swiss francs.

Metered taxi rides are reasonably priced, and signs by the taxi ranks give sample fares. Rates start at HK$15.00 on flag fall (first two km) plus HK$1.40 for every further 250 m. Pay only the fare shown on the meter, plus any additional charges when applicable (Hong Kong Island passengers have to pay the two-way Cross-Harbour tunnel toll, and a fee is charged for each piece of luggage – charges are displayed in the taxi). |

If
you are travelling to Hong Kong, China, you must be in
possession of a valid identity document allowing you to
enter the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).
If you need an entry visa, you are advised to make the
necessary arrangements well in advance of your departure
– you will not be allowed entry to HKSAR without a
valid visa.
In order to obtain a visa you may need an official letter of invitation (for visa purposes only) to the event from the ITU. You should send your request for a letter of invitation as soon as possible (and no later than 18 November 2002) by email or fax, to:
Please include in the request your name, title, company, street address, e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers. The letter of invitation will then be faxed to you for submission to the relevant Chinese diplomatic and consular mission. We will also fax a copy of the invitation directly to the same Chinese representation. |
