Frequency licences / import permit and others

Exhibitors and media wishing to bring into Hong Kong any radiocommunications equipment either for demonstration or actual use for the ITU Telecom Asia 2000 event should approach the Office of the Telecommunications Authority ("OFTA") to obtain a short-term permit unless such equipment is exempted from licensing under the law.

In general, cellular phones used in connection with a licensed public telecommunications service are exempted from licensing. Low power radio devices which conform to the technical specifications issued by the Telecommunications Authority ("TA") are also exempted from licensing. In addition, line communications equipment is exempted from licensing when it is used for access to a public telecommunications service.
