86 was the second regional ITU TELECOM
event to be held, following ASIA
TELECOM
85, the successful opening event which was staged
in Singapore the previous year. AFRICA
TELECOM
86 was the first AFRICA
TELECOM
event, and was broadly focused on the Maitland
Report – The Missing Link – which was
published by the ITU in December 1984. The event
coincided with the ITU African Broadcasting
Conference which was held from 22 September to 10
October 1986, also at the Kenyatta International
Conference Centre.
The AFRICA
TELECOM
86 event attracted 94 Exhibitors from 22 countries
and also featured eight National Pavilions. A net
total of 2,500 m2 of exhibition space was
allocated. During the event 11,000
telecommunications professionals visited the
Exhibition, while the Forum attracted 80 top-level
speakers and 250 delegates.
