Dear Cyberspace Visitor,
The TELECOM
Forum Team is pleased to welcome you to the official Forum pages of
Africa 2001, the 5th Regional ITU TELECOM
event for the Africa region, which is being hosted by the Government of
South Africa, in Midrand (Johannesburg) from 12 to 16 November 2001.
Africa is one of the world’s
largest potential markets for improved telecommunications and for
quality of life. We are currently experiencing a period of tremendous
change in the global political information economy. To a large degree,
these changes are being facilitated by fantastic new developments in
information and communications technologies, and the products and
services that utilize them. These developments are expected to have a
profound impact on economies and societies around the world and to
provide the basis for potential long-term sustainable socio-economic
growth and development.
By bringing together, under
the same roof, government representatives, industry leaders, operators,
investors, regulators, technical specialists and other key players in
telecommunications the Africa 2001 Forum seeks to ensure a
cross-fertilization of ideas at the highest level as well as being a
catalyst for pragmatic action. The Forum will be used to debate,
discuss, analyze, share and define what is possible and what must be
done in real terms to expand the African Renaissance.
If you need to receive more
information on this Forum, don’t hesitate to contact the TELECOM
Forum Team. We will be delighted to answer your questions directly.
